Bluebird / Sialia

Blue Bird

These blue birds are very much like robins, because of their size and chest colour, they also sing lovely sweet songs, the (male) mountain bluebird is entirely blue.

Bluebirds eat small fruits and hunt insects, spiders, and other creatures from above. The birds perch, watch, and then swoop to the ground to pounce on their prey. Pairs mate in spring and summer, when they construct small, bowl-shaped nests. Females lay four or five eggs and incubate them for about two weeks, the babies leave after 15-20 days.

Bluebirds living in higher latitudes may go south if food becomes scarce or temperatures are too cold. Mountain bluebirds migrate to lower places during the same seasons.

These lovely birds live for 6-10 years and are omnivores, while in a group they are called a flock.
